MAN’S BEST FRIEND

A solo exhibit by Wilbert Custodio

There are many ways one can honor their relationship with their animal companions. Wilbert Custodio does so through his art. For Man’s Best Friend, he uses his practice of working with expansive fields of color to highlight one of his most cherished bonds – that between himself and his dog. The artist views his dogs not just as pets, but as children or siblings, and magnifies this relationship through his vivid chromatic depictions.

Silhouetted against dynamic colorful backgrounds are the figures of child and beloved friend, walking together, playing, and simply enjoying the other’s company. Custodio scrapes through layers of paint to reveal these tender moments as if at the end of fervent days of yellow, tiresome moments of red, or languid periods of gray, all we can count is the companionship of our dearest friends.
